What to Note About JAMB UTME
The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is a computer-based test usually conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The aim is to ascertain candidate’s ability to study in a higher institution whether a University, Polytechnic, College of Education or Monotechnic.
Candidates are required to write English as a compulsory subject and any other three (3) subjects that best describes their intended course of study. To gain admission, candidates must score 180 and above alongside five (5) credit passes in WASSCE/NECO results. The exam usually lasts for about two hours for 180 questions (60 for English and 40 each for the three other subjects).
Registration Process
- To register, you must have your National ID (NIN) and WASSCE/NECO results ready.
- Purchase EPIN from authorized centers and banks.
- Visit an accredited CBT center for biometrics and details.
- Carefully verify your details and print acknowledgement slip.
- Print examination slip to know your exam center, date, and time.
JAMB Status 2026
JAMB has announced the commencement of the sale of forms for the 2026/2027 academic session, and this was made detailed in a photo statement signed by the Registrar, Prof. Ishak Oloyede, and shared on the board’s official X handle on Tuesday night.Â
According to JAMB, applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the 2026/2027 academic session. The board noted that eligibility is tied to age, noting that only candidates who will be less than sixteen years old by 30th September 2026 are generally eligible to apply.Â
They further noted that other candidates who are less than sixteen years old will have to undergo an intensive evaluation to determine their eligibility for a waiver and must have scored not less than eighty percent in their SSCE and in the exceptional candidate assessment.Â
They stated that the UTME results of the underage candidate will be released only at the completion of the complete evaluation process.
JAMB 2026 Registration Timelines
The board had announced that the period for registration for UTME candidates, including those from foreign countries, is from Monday, 26th January 2026 to Saturday, 28th February 2026.Â
They further disclosed that E-PIN vending for UTME begins on the same date, Monday, 19th January, and ends on Thursday, 26th February 2026, whereas the registration closes on Saturday, 28th February 2026 (Note the difference in dates).
For Direct Entry candidates, JAMB stated that the sale of the 2026 Direct Entry forms and E-PIN vending will commence from Monday, 2nd March 2026 and end by Saturday, 25th April 2026, and would only be at the board’s state and zonal offices.
The board had announced three categories of E-PINs. It stated that there will be Direct Entry (₦5,700), UTME only without mock (₦7,200), and UTME with mock (₦8,700).Â
According to JAMB, the breakdown includes:
- UTME/DE JAMB application fee (₦3,500)
- Reading text (₦1,000)
- CBT center registration service charge (₦700)
- CBT center UTME service charge (₦1,500)
- Bank charges (₦500)
- CBT mock UTME center charge (₦1,500)

The board also announced the examination dates. It noted that the 2026 UTME will commence on Thursday, 16th April 2026 and end on Saturday, 25th April 2026, whereas the mock UTME, which is optional, shall hold on Saturday, 28th March 2026.
